After the poor form of his side in the league this season Roy Keane has resigned as the manager of Sunderland this morning saying that he keeps the interest of the club as his highest priority and it was good for both him and the club if he parted away at this moment. The former Manchester United player was instrumental in building the current team. Sunderland who were promoted the top flight last season did a wonderful job to stay in the Premiership and also produced some good results. This time the state of the team is in misery as they are fighting down in the relegation spot. Right now they are in the 18th position and need some work to be done so that they stay in the top flight next season too. Keane voiced his self-doubt last weekend regarding his ongoing suitability for the post after the 4-1 home defeat by Bolton Wanderers which featured an appalling defensive performance. He said: “I ask myself every day if I’m the right man for Sunderland.I asked myself this morning, and I said I was. Sunday morning, if the answer’s no, we’ll have to look at it.”

With this win Manchester United advanced to the semifinals of the competition. The scoreline of the match was 5-3. Tevez scored four goals as Nani scored the fifth. Manchester United are the only top flight team that are still in the competition and they are having high chances of winning the tournament now. Tevez who has been sidelined since the arrival of Berbatov in the team is looking forward to some regular football action with his display today. Other players to be noted in the match were Anderson and Rafael as both of them did their jobs well. In the other match that took place today Tottenham found no difficulty in overcoming their opponents and thus advancing to the semi-finals of the tournament

Arsenal have been eliminated from the Carling Cup by Burnley who have already eliminated Chelsea in the previous round of the tournament. This victory is something historic to the team of Burnley as they are entering the semi finals of a domestic competition for the first time in the history of the club. They are high in confidence having eliminated two of the top four teams in England. Arsenal who are in bad position since winning their match against Manchester United lost the game by two goals and this time it was some bad defending by the defenders that cost the match for them. Former captain Gallas who has been included into the team once again was out of minds as he was the main reason for the very poor form of the players. The former captain tried to make things right and earn the trust of the manager back but everything went in vain. With Arsenal out of the tournament it is only Manchester United who are in the tournament as Chelsea and Liverpool have already been eliminated from the tournament.

Fans in Brazil and Milan are much worried after their star player Kaka met with a car accident last night. Reports state that there need to be nothing worried about the situation as the player has suffered nothing serious in the accident. It was then that the player met with the accident and all the attraction was pulled towards him after the incident. The local police found it a bit difficult to clear the public and escort the player to the hospital. As per the reports that came from Italy the player will be back to action in a couple of days and there is nothing to worry about. Kaka apologised to the man who, luckily for the player, was a Milan fan - it could have been so different if the third party supported Inter.

After much debate and speculation Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United and Portugal who helped Manchester United to win two titles last season has won the most coveted prize that a player could earn which is the Player of the Year award. Ronaldo was a clear winner, collecting 77 votes from the 96 journalists who judge the award, while Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Liverpool’s Fernando Torres filled out the placings. It was no surprise that the player won the award as being a midfielder he scored 42 goals last season to help Manchester United to become both English and European champions. Only Messi was giving tough fight to him but he outbeat him with a huge margin of votes. Having bagged this award too the FIFA Player of the year award is only up for grabs and once again the fight starts and it is more interesting this time as no English based player has ever won the title so far in the history of football which favours the Argentinian.
