Arsenal have been eliminated from the Carling Cup by Burnley who have already eliminated Chelsea in the previous round of the tournament. This victory is something historic to the team of Burnley as they are entering the semi finals of a domestic competition for the first time in the history of the club. They are high in confidence having eliminated two of the top four teams in England. Arsenal who are in bad position since winning their match against Manchester United lost the game by two goals and this time it was some bad defending by the defenders that cost the match for them. Former captain Gallas who has been included into the team once again was out of minds as he was the main reason for the very poor form of the players. The former captain tried to make things right and earn the trust of the manager back but everything went in vain. With Arsenal out of the tournament it is only Manchester United who are in the tournament as Chelsea and Liverpool have already been eliminated from the tournament.
Arsenal beat Chelsea at Bridge and has removed them from the top of the table. Liverpool now lead the table for a short period of time and have to win their match against West Ham tonight. Chelsea were well posed to win the game and were in complete control of the most part of the game before a bad decision from the referee changed the course of the game. It was the linesman’s bad decision that allowed a Van Persie offside goal and in quick succession of five minutes he netted another one to make clear that they were in the lead and this time he made no mistake. With this win Arsenal moves up in the table and are behind Manchester United now in the fourth position. The players are delighted with the result and so is the manager of the team. Scolari said that he was much disappointed with the decision of the referee and he felt that it was his team that should have won the match. Chelsea who were undefeated in their home for more than four years have now been beaten thrice at home in a span of two months and this is not a good sign for a team that is looking to win the Premier League title.
Defending champions Manchester United and Arsenal advanced to the next round of the Champions League competition with the results of the matches that took place last night. Manchester United played out a goalless draw against Villareal as Arsenal grabbed a winner in the dying minutes of the matches against Dynamo Kiev. Both the english teams were having the advantage of playing against a team of 10 players as a Villareal defender got a red card for his bad tackle on Ronaldo. Ronaldo seemed to be injured and needed to be replaced soon. It has to be noted that Ronaldo earlier had picked a similar injury in his leg in the match against Aston Villa that took place in the weekend and was cleared to play just in time for this match. Bendtner scored the lone goal for Arsenal. It was a controversial goal as Fabregas set Bendtner up with a air ball. Villareal too advanced to the next round with the draw. Bayern Munich, Lyon, Porto and Real Madrid too won in the matches that took place simultaneously last night.
Arsene Wenger named Csec Fabregas as the new captain of the young Arsenal team following the drama that took place in the team last week. French defender Gallas was the captain of the Arsenal team till last week before he told the press that there was no respect for authority in the team and the players in the team were not playing as a team. This lead to the stripping down of Gallas from the captaincy and he was eventually dropped from the team that lost to Manchester City this Saturday. With high speculation ringing around who will be named as the next captain of Arsenal it was Fabregas who was named as the capain of the team today and Arsene Wenger stated it in a official statement earlier this day. He is just 21 years old. With this he becomes one of the youngest captains in the history of the game. A lot more players who have been succesful in the history have captained at a younger stage than Fabregas and the names include Tony Adams of Arsenal, Darren Flectcher of Scotland, Fernando Torres of Atheletico Madrid, Patrick Vierra of Arsenal, Jermaine James of Nottingham Forest. The fans are delighted on hearing this news about their favourite player being named as the captain
It was a slaggy EPL this weekend as the top teams recieved a setback in their race and it didn’t matter much in the title race as all the teams drew except for Arsenal who lost their match against Manchester City. It was splendid display from Manchester City who dominated the Gunners who were setback already by the crisis that is taking place in their team due to the public meet given by their ex-captain Gallas. Manchester City beat them by 3 goals to nil in which Robinho and Ireland performed well and scored a goal each. The difference would have been greater had Robinho’s another goal on a back heel been allowed and they also missed out a lot of opportunities that must have been converted. Liverpool also drew their game against Fulham. This weekend witnessed matches for the top teams against the teams that are in form in the recent month in England. Chelsea were held at home to a 0-0 draw by Newcastle United while the double champions Manchester United have to be contented with a draw against Aston Vila at Villa Park. Had Manchester United won the match they could have reduced the lead at the top of the table to well a 3 point and have some chance of winning the title in th second half of the league. As of now it is most posed that Chelsea are the hot favourites for the title. But anything is prone to happen in the game of sport so wait and watch out for the action and drama that is to take place.
After a press meet which shocked most of the Gunner fans in the world, William Gallas has been stripped of the captaincy and also been dropped out of the team according to a news source from England. The French International has earlier said in a press meet that the situation in the Arsenal dressing room was not good and the players did not play as a team. He also stated that there was no respect for authority in the team. Arsene Wenger was a bit angry with William Gallas for having taken the matter to the public which demoralizes the team and he needs to do a lot of homework to bring the team back in position. That too in the current situation Arsenal are without most of their top players who are out with injury. Gallas revealed in an interview earlier in the week several incidents where he has had arguments on the pitch and in the dressing room during matches, including at half-time during the 4-4 draw with local rivals Tottenham Hotspur in October. Most of the former players in the club called for stripping of captaincy from Gallas and in the absence of the player it will be Alumina or Clichy who will be captaining the team in the match against Manchester City today.
Manchester City and Arsenal both who are trying to establish their spot in the table are clashing today. While all the other top flight teams have easier opponents it is Arsenal turn to win the match compulsorily for staying in the title race. Arsenal lost its momentum in the title race as it lost to smaller teams like Hull City, Stoke City, Aston Villa and so. The match turns out to be important for Manchester City too as they are trying to stabilize their results after the take over the new owners. They haven’t been able to win continuosly. Seeing the results of the last five games played by both the teams
Manchester City D-L-W-L-L
Arsenal L-W-W-D-L
it is Arsenal who is having the upper hand. But still their results too are not consistent and they will be without the services of Walcott, Eduardo, Rosicky, Eboue and Fabregas is under suspension for the red card he recieved a couple of weeks ago for butting on the goal keeper. Manchester City will be with its full team and will be expecting a win today. To add worries to Arsene Wenger their captain Gallas has gone public about the situation in the dressing room that lead to him being stripped from captaincy and his place in the first team. So Arsenal will also be not playing Gallas in today’s match.
