It was a slaggy EPL this weekend as the top teams recieved a setback in their race and it didn’t matter much in the title race as all the teams drew except for Arsenal who lost their match against Manchester City. It was splendid display from Manchester City who dominated the Gunners who were setback already by the crisis that is taking place in their team due to the public meet given by their ex-captain Gallas. Manchester City beat them by 3 goals to nil in which Robinho and Ireland performed well and scored a goal each. The difference would have been greater had Robinho’s another goal on a back heel been allowed and they also missed out a lot of opportunities that must have been converted. Liverpool also drew their game against Fulham. This weekend witnessed matches for the top teams against the teams that are in form in the recent month in England. Chelsea were held at home to a 0-0 draw by Newcastle United while the double champions Manchester United have to be contented with a draw against Aston Vila at Villa Park. Had Manchester United won the match they could have reduced the lead at the top of the table to well a 3 point and have some chance of winning the title in th second half of the league. As of now it is most posed that Chelsea are the hot favourites for the title. But anything is prone to happen in the game of sport so wait and watch out for the action and drama that is to take place.
Aston Villa are hosting champions Manchester United in what is going to be a crucial game in deciding the race for the title. Aston Villa are high after beating Arsenal at Emirates and moving up to the joint fourth position in the table. Manchetser United are backing in scoring form as they thrashed Stoke City by a score of 5-0 which included a goal from the debutant Welbeck who is only 19 years old. Seeing the results of the last five games played by both the teams the win record is
Manchester United W-W-L-D-W
Aston Villa W-W-W-L-W
Manchester United will be without its top players such as Berbatov, Brown, Hargreaves as they are out with injury. Scholes who was out of action for more than two months can be expected to return in this match and at the most in the next week. Aston Villa are in superb form and they are not going to leave their fight for the Champions League spot this time. The key player to watch in this team is Young. He did the highest number of assists in the last season and displayed a splendid effort in the match against Arsenal last week inspite of missing a penalty. Rooney is expected to be back in action after he missed the International clash against Germany that took place last week.
Arsenal were high up in the mood after beating champions Manchester United at Emirates. But the joy was short living as the Gunners were beat once again at home and this time it was Aston Villa who had the laugh. Aston Villa beat Gunners for the first time in an away in fifteen years. Arsenal went into the match with Adebayor on bench and Bendtner as their lone striker. Things were not going Arsenal way as Aston Villa won a penalty early in the first half. Young was the one who took the penalty but his attempt was saved by Alumina and this drew the fans crazy. The fans were booing everytime Aston Villa players attacked. Young played a very good match from then and he made a pin point cross to Agbonlahor and Clichy who scored his first goal for Arsenal a couple of weeks ago interuppted it and put back in his own net. Aston Villa players were high in energy and they were making use of the mistake of the Arsenal players and they were attacking well. While the Arsenal players were busy attacking Agbonlahor made a brilliant counter attack and drifted one past Alumina to keep the match out of stakes for Arsenal. With this loss Arsenal see themselves move down to fourth place and they are in level with Aston Villa. They are nine points behind leaders Chelsea and Liverpool and not to forget they are yet to play Chelsea and Liverpool.
