Fernando Torres of Liverpool is out of action once again and this time he will not be playing for three months. The forward picked up an hamstring injury and his absence is going to affect the team a lot as they are in a good position of winning the title for the first time in 18 years. Torres was back in action after suffering a similar injury a couple of months earlier and have played just two matches following his return. This is really a bad season for Torres as he is suffering a lot of injuries. The player most part of the championship that has taken so far due to an injury. Liverpool are in the top of the table sharing the top spot with Chelsea and about half the tournament is about to get over. Liverpool are having big matches in the weeks to come.

It was a slaggy EPL this weekend as the top teams recieved a setback in their race and it didn’t matter much in the title race as all the teams drew except for Arsenal who lost their match against Manchester City. It was splendid display from Manchester City who dominated the Gunners who were setback already by the crisis that is taking place in their team due to the public meet given by their ex-captain Gallas. Manchester City beat them by 3 goals to nil in which Robinho and Ireland performed well and scored a goal each. The difference would have been greater had Robinho’s another goal on a back heel been allowed and they also missed out a lot of opportunities that must have been converted. Liverpool also drew their game against Fulham. This weekend witnessed matches for the top teams against the teams that are in form in the recent month in England. Chelsea were held at home to a 0-0 draw by Newcastle United while the double champions Manchester United have to be contented with a draw against Aston Vila at Villa Park. Had Manchester United won the match they could have reduced the lead at the top of the table to well a 3 point and have some chance of winning the title in th second half of the league. As of now it is most posed that Chelsea are the hot favourites for the title. But anything  is prone to happen in the game of sport so wait and watch out for the action and drama that is to take place.

Gerrard is confident that the Liverpol are confident of regaining the title this season for the first time since 1990. Liverpool captain has said that this is the best start that their team had so far in the last decade and they are confident that they will be winning the title this time and has sent an alarming signal to all his rivals. Liverpool who dominated English football in the starting years of early half of the 20th century slowly faded out and they have not even won a single championship title in the last 18 years. The last time that they won the championship title in England was in 1990 and since then they were only second best to the top teams in England .The state of the team has become worse in the last five years as they are battling for the last Champions League spot. They had a good start to the season last time but they failed to capitalize on it and they were once again back on the fourth spot. The only consolation for them is that they have reached the semi finals of the Champions League in the last four years with two finals in it and a title to be proud of. They have the dream start this season and they are on top of the table alongside Chelsea who only chip them on goal difference. Gerrard told that “It’s important to stay humble. We know we’re a good team, we know we’re getting closer to a title challenge - we can say that. But we’ve got to prove we can stay in the race to the end.”

Liverpool maintained the pressure on Chelsea winning their match against Bolton with a score of 2-0. It was Kuyt once again who was the star performer and he didn’t fail to score for them this weekend too. The form of the Netherland International is great and he has been scoring consistently this season and has helped the team to stay in the top in the absence of Fernando Torres who is off due to an ankle injury. Kuyt opened the score the score for Liverpool with a beautiful header when was unmarked in the penalty area. Bolton captain Jussi Jaaskelainen who was the man of the match in the win against Hull City last weekend tried everything he could to keep the Liverpool players at bay but the Liverpool players were too good for him. Gerrard scored the second goal. Had not Jussi Jaaskelainen saved all the shots on target and taking the number of times the ball hit the post Liverpool would have executed a big defeat here. With the win Liverpool are on top of the table for atleast two hours till Chelsea play their encounter with West Brom and there is going to be a tough fight at the top of the table for the title this season as all the top flight teams are performing well under pressure situations.

Liverpool and Chelsea were once again eliminated from the Carling Cup and this time it is too early for them. Liverpool suffered yet another defeat at the hands of Tottenham and this time it was by a bigger margin than the first one. Tottenham is the only team to defeat Liverpool this season. The Russian sensation Pavyluchenko who scored in the first encounter scored a brace here and boosted the chances of Tottenham retaining the trophy which they had won last year. Chelsea were once again eliminated by Barnsley who did the same thing to Chelsea last year too. The one factor that Chelsea can be proud of is that their star player Drogba was back to scoring terms. Tottenham almost sealed the match in the first half as they were up by three goals at the end of the first half and Liverpool offered some fight but all went in vain. Pavyluchenko and Campell scored a brace each for Tottenham while Playssis and Hyppia scored for the visitors. In the other match Chelsea were in the lead for most part of the match and Akinbyi scored in the second half to level the scored and as the score was the same at the end of the regular time, the match went into extra time. Neither of the teams could break the dead lock and hence it was penalties to decide the match. Burnley edged Chelsea on penalties with a score of 5-4. So of the top four two teams have been eliminated from Carling Cup and this opens up the title race more open than it was before.
