Tottenham’s unbeaten streak was put to an end by Fulham. Tottenham has been having a hard time this season after the departure of their strikers Berbatov and Keane. So the team management took action and dismissed their manager and appointed a new manager Redknapp. This changed things in White Hartley Lane as they were back to winning ways and they threatened the title contenders Liverpool and Arsenal and were looking well placed to retain the Carling Cup that they won last season. But this run was put to an end this week when Fulham defeated them in their home. This pushed the Spurs back to the relegation spot as they are back in the bottom three spots. Fulham were cruising in the game as they were two goals up in the second half. The new sigining Frazier Campbell who came from Manchester United scored the consolation goal for the visitors. Campbell has helped Spurs to win the previous encounter against Liverpool when he scored two goals in his first match for the Spurs. Now the small boy has scored three goals in two games and is providing some hopes for the Spurs.
The quater final draw for the Carling Cup has been released and there is only one clash between the Premiership sides and as it comes all time it is Manchester United who are hosting Blackburn Rovers and Burnley who eliminated leaders Chelsea from the competition has to face Arsenal at home and being a Mancheter United fan I am expecting them to do that magic once again and eliminate Arsenal from the competition. Manchester United who escaped narrowly with a 1-0 win with a penalty from Tevez in their previous match against QPR will be happy that the match is to be played in their home thus providing them a moral advantage over their opponents. Reigning champions Tottenham are travelling to Watford for a tough test who had a dream run in the F.A.Cup last season when they went to the finals to play in the Wembley for the first time in the history of the club. Liverpool and Chelsea were once again eliminated from the Carling Cup and this time it is too early for them. Liverpool suffered yet another defeat at the hands of Tottenham and this time it was by a bigger margin than the first one. Tottenham is the only team to defeat Liverpool this season. The Russian sensation Pavyluchenko who scored in the first encounter scored a brace here and boosted the chances of Tottenham retaining the trophy which they had won last year. Chelsea were once again eliminated by Barnsley who did the same thing to Chelsea last year too. The one factor that Chelsea can be proud of is that their star player Drogba was back to scoring terms. Tottenham almost sealed the match in the first half as they were up by three goals at the end of the first half and Liverpool offered some fight but all went in vain. Pavyluchenko and Campell scored a brace each for Tottenham while Playssis and Hyppia scored for the visitors. In the other match Chelsea were in the lead for most part of the match and Akinbyi scored in the second half to level the scored and as the score was the same at the end of the regular time, the match went into extra time. Neither of the teams could break the dead lock and hence it was penalties to decide the match. Burnley edged Chelsea on penalties with a score of 5-4. So of the top four two teams have been eliminated from Carling Cup and this opens up the title race more open than it was before.
Tottenham were having what is called a nightmare as they were way down the table in the last spot of the English Premier League with no wins and just two draws and well behind all the new comers in the Premier League. The next match was against Arsenal and they showed great discipline in the match and at one stage of the match Arsenal were cruising to victory with two goals up and they made a stunning comeback in the last ten minutes in which they scored two goals to steal an essential point. Then came the match against against the leaders of the league, Liverpool who were unbeaten in the season so far. Tottenham handed them the first loss of the season as they beat Liverpool by 2-1 and once again it was Pavyluchenko who scored the goal for the Spurs and now Spurs are up in the table in the 19th position and this has made the fans happy. There has been a sudden change in the gameplan of the players and the new signings Pavyluchenko and Modric are starting to impress the fans and this is sure to do some good to the team. Harry Redknapp has now earned 7 points from 3 games he was in charge and not to forget two of those matches were against the Top Four Clubs in England and I am sure that they will finish in the top half of the table by the end of the season.
